HOME SWEET HOME!

So.....

After writing, recording, performing, turning a year older, and of course maintaining my Clark Kent, I came back to my artistic home, The Urban Juke Joint. Located in at the Bahai community center on east 11th street between University and Broadway, The Urban Juke Joint is held on the last Friday of every month. The poetry series has been in existence for 3 1/2 years. I call this home because it's one of the many places that I've grown as an artist, wright along with several of my peers in the NY/NJ performance scene.

This place always brings me back to center because it feels like family which is a very unique feeling for an open mic. Here at the Juke Joint, Amateurs blend in with perfect harmony amongst performance veterans to make an experience 2nd to none. This environment always produces a feeling of love.

But I digress. While vibing out to some of the artists here, my sister (from another mister) Najla came to the stage to report some disturbing news; one of our brothers from another mother, Thomas, is currently incarcerated for a crime he didn't commit. Needless to say this hurt my soul. My peers on "the scene" are family to me. I/we have a tendency to curl up into our cocoons, so I had no knowledge of this. I'm deeply saddened wright now. Nontheless as my homie Univited said prior to doing his piece "THOMAS WILL GET OUT." The New Jersey community is having an event in Thomas' honor to raise money for his bail. The event will be on Thursday December 10th from 8pm until 11pm at the Key Club, located at 58 Park Place, in Newark. It's $10 and all the funds raised will go towards his release. There will be an open mic as well.

I have made a donation, however I IMPLORE you-if you support MY Bandwagon, then understand that Thomas' release is important to me. If you want to make a donation, click the pay pal link and give what you can. If it doesn't work, please email me at sosoon@sosoonmusic.com and I'll help you find a way to make it happen.

PS: On a brighter note, I also got to see a young brother by the name of Jemel (no more than 12 yrs old) did a very inspirational piece. Just reinforces the fact that OUR youth is strong and they get what's going on! Keep doing your thing young homey!
